I was struck by the immense beauty of Lucerne as soon as I stepped out of the train station. It’s a city that has the perfect mix of tradition, history and contemporary flare. It’s romantic, energetic and enchanting. Here are a few more reasons why Lucerne has a special place in my heart.
Of course, I can’t visit a new city without doing a bit of shopping. Although I’ve been on a spending freeze lately, I still wanted to see what Lucerne had to offer from a design point of view. Robert and I visited some beautiful furniture stores. Many were too expensive to actually purchase anything but it was still fun to browse and get inspired.
I didn’t visit a lot of clothes stores, probably because I didn’t want to tempt myself too much. We did however make a detour to check out the Young Designers Market to discover what the local talent had to offer. I have to say I was quite impressed with what I found. From home decor accessories to clothes and jewerly, the boutique seems to only feature the best of the best. Here are a few pics from their website and e-shop:
And below a few (less professional) shots taken by me in store s starting with my favourites from Everything Has Purpose by designer Bianca Sissing (who is also my yoga teacher in Lucerne, a fellow Canuck!). When I first saw her bracelets at Living Yoga, I wanted to buy all of them. Then I saw her gorgeous yoga mat bags and had to control myself not to shop til I dropped. Update: Because I loved Bianca’s creations so much, I wrote a full post here.
Bianca also makes gorgeous delicate bracelets with positive messages like the two featured at right in the above photo. And below are a few other beautiful finds from the Young Designers Market:
Even if a picture is worth a thousand words, I still don’t think that all those featured here do justice to the experience of being in Lucerne. You have to see it for yourself to truly appreciate this lovely city and I hope you do get a chance to visit some day.
