It was about 7 years ago that I first developed a passion for velvet in the home. I was decorating my new condo and it seemed like every picture I gathered for inspiration featured velvet sofas, chairs or headboards. I ended up purchasing the Byrd sofa from EQ3 in Slate and it was a wise investment.
My love for velvet was recently reignited when my gaze fell upon the above picture from Apartment 34. Have you ever seen something so beautiful? I reposted it to my Instagram account and people went mad, MAD I tell you. The trick to make velvet modern and not too “royal” is to pick furniture with clean lines.

If you don’t want to go full on with a large velvet sofa, why not try an armchair like the one below that is from Ikea believe it or not! I blogged about this beauty here back in 2014 when the boyfriend and I were decorating the apartment in Switzerland. Unfortunately, this style of chair doesn’t seem available in velvet anymore but they have the same model in other fabrics here. There is also this STOCKHOLM chair in black that is super stylish. And if you want a bigger impact, they have the STOCKHOLM sofa as well which is quite elegant.

If you feel that this sensual fabric is more appropriate in the bedroom you might want to opt for a statement making headboard:

Touches of velvet in the home are a great way to add glamour to any room. Even the simplest piece of furniture looks 100 times more sophisticated in this luxe material. What are your thoughts on velvet in the home? Yay or nay? Let me know in the comments below!
