I was asking my hairstylist yesterday what she thought was a common problem that many people are struggling with right now. Her answer: comparing ourselves to others and in particular on social media. I have to admit this is something that I deal with on a daily basis because I am so present on social media but even if you aren’t, you can still fall into the comparison trap and it can rob you of a lot of joy.

It can be easy to think that others have it better than us. That they are more accomplished, more successful, more (fill in the blank).

Especially with social media where we basically only see the highlights of people’s lives, it’s all too tempting to think that the grass is greener for everyone else.

The truth is that we are all blessed and all enjoy so much abundance in our life (and not necessarily just from the material point of view) but when we focus on what others have that we don’t, we can make ourselves miserable. Let’s remember that everyone has their own challenges and nobody’s life is perfect (even if that is what they try to project).

Let’s remember that we can create so much joy for ourselves by practicing gratitude for all that we have vs focusing on what we think we are lacking.

Go ahead, do the exercise today of noticing all that you are grateful for from a delicious meal, to a good laugh, to easy access to clean water, a roof over your head… You are extremely lucky but it’s only when you realize that that you can finally tap into true joy and contentment.

Wishing you a wonderful day!
