Last Sunday, I caught myself in a major game of comparing myself to other people. In particular, to bloggers that have been in the game much longer than me and have a level of production (for their videos, design of their site, etc) that I perceived as much better than mine. It took me a few minutes to realize what I was doing and why I was starting to feel so crappy.
In this video, I talk about why comparison is the thief of joy and how it can actually stop us from reaching for our goals and dreams. It’s a normal behaviour that we all take part in but for some of us it can become a bad habit that we fall into a little too frequently. Thankfully, there are a few ways that we can step away from this counter productive mindset and embrace our unique path:
Do you notice how often you compare yourself to others and how it makes you feel? Looking around us for role models and inspiration is great but we always have to remind ourselves that we have our unique path. There is a reason for where you are at right now and wishing to be somewhere else or someone else will simply deplete your energy which will keep you from moving forward.
Find that balance between searching for ideas and inspiration and trusting your own journey. Believe in your gifts and find your own original way to make them come to life. Comparing yourself and trying to be someone else is exhausting. It’s way more fulfilling to be the best version of YOU rather than wanting to emulate another person (or their work).
