Meditation has gone mainstream—and for good reason. Even Netflix has a series dedicated to it (Headspace Guide to Meditation), showing just how accessible and relevant this practice has become.
If you’ve been curious about meditation but felt intimidated or unsure where to start, you’re not alone. The good news is: you can’t do it wrong, and even a few minutes a day can make a real difference.
Why Meditation Is Worth Your Time
Meditation has been shown to offer a wide range of benefits, including:
Reduced stress and anxiety
Better focus and mental clarity
Improved emotional resilience
A calmer relationship with yourself and others
More restful sleep and overall well-being
The best part? You don’t need a perfect posture, a quiet room, or hours of practice to start feeling these benefits. Even short sessions count.
How to Get Started With Meditation
Here are a few practical tips to ease into your first meditation experience:
Start small – 3–5 minutes is enough to begin noticing the effects.
Focus on your breath – notice each inhale and exhale without trying to control it.
Be kind to yourself – your mind will wander, and that’s completely normal. Simply notice it and gently return to your breath.
Pick a consistent time – morning, lunch, or before bed—whatever works for you.
Create a simple space – a corner of a room, a cushion, or even a chair. It helps signal your mind that it’s time to pause.
Guided Meditation Resources
To make starting even easier, I’ve created a few (free) short guided meditations for beginners:

Work With a Meditation Guide
Sometimes, the hardest part is simply getting started. Having a guide can make a big difference, especially if you’re new to meditation or feel stuck. I offer one-on-one meditation sessions, which can help you:
Build a sustainable daily practice
Find techniques that resonate with you
Navigate beginner challenges with confidence
If you’d like a personal session, you can reach me at gencolmer@outlook.com. A little guidance can help you get unstuck and start feeling the benefits quickly.
Your First Step
Meditation doesn’t have to be complicated, and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. Pick one practice today—whether it’s a 3-minute breathing exercise or one of the guided meditations mentioned above—and simply notice how it feels.
Then, tomorrow, take another small step. Over time, these little moments of pause add up, creating a practice that supports your mind, body, and overall well-being.
The meditations above are a wonderful place to start, and if you’d like to be the first to receive new guided meditations and mindfulness tips, sign up for my newsletter.
Every step you take on this journey, no matter how small, is a step toward feeling calmer, more grounded, and more connected to yourself.
