This quote contains so much truth. We definitely do have a choice in how we react to what is happening to us. If we have enough presence and awareness, we can create a tiny space between the external event and how we react to it.

That tiny space is where awareness lies and it’s what allows us to have the power to consciously choose how to react. With time, we can have presence to observe ourselves and choose to stay peaceful even though our initial feeling was being upset.

When we are totally unconscious we simply let life’s big waves push us around and we are constantly in reaction mode. We play the victim, we tell and retell our “sad stories” or dramas over and over again.

When we decide to stand in our full power, we can choose not to carry an event on our shoulders for hours or days after it has occurred. We can decide to let go of it right there when it happens. It takes practice to do this but the effort is greatly rewarded. You stop feeling like life is always happening to you and start feeling more empowered in choosing how you will live each of these moments.

Notice today when something that doesn’t suit you happens. See if you can pause and actually decide how you react to it. You have the power to make your day what you want despite external circumstances. Happiness is a choice that you make over and over again in your day. Wishing you a wonderful Fri-Yay filled with awareness and inner peace.
