Comparison is a normal human behaviour and it can be healthy to assess where we are at in life compared to where we would like to be (ie. our goals and dreams) and use others as inspiration or benchmarks for success. That said, we always need to remind ourselves that each of our journey is unique so be careful how you compare yourself to others. There is only one you and you must celebrate that and see all the gifts you have to be grateful for.
Another way we get ourselves into trouble is when we get upset wishing that things were different than they are. Resisting what is only causes frustration. The healthy approach is to notice the place you are at (whether it’s your relationship, job, physical fitness or anything else) and try looking at it with certain detachment.
If you aren’t where you think you should be, determine what actions or mindset could help you move forward but find a place of peace in your current situation.
Comparison can come up a lot with the online world whether it’s looking at other people’s “perfect lives” on social media or in my case comparing my online businesses with others. When I notice that I am doing this, I come back to this saying: “Don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20.” I try to refocus on all that I have accomplished so far and remember that whoever I am envying started at the same place I did.
Truly cherish your journey. There is always a reason behind the divine timing of our life and lessons to be learned from the challenging moments. Trust.
