This morning, I learned of the very sad news that the wonderfully talented and kind hearted Oscar de la Renta had died. Oscar de la Renta was so much more than a designer. He truly loved to make women look beautiful and I have been in awe of his creations since I was a teenager and bought my first Vogue magazine. Being a man who lived life to the fullest and always had a smile on his face, I think Mr. de la Renta would have wanted us to celebrate all the beauty he created rather than cry over what a terrible loss this is. In his honour, I present you this inspiring and touching tribute video as well as my top 25 picks of his last 5 runway shows.
As we say goodbye, I leave you with an Oscar de la Renta image that will forever be engraved in my fashionista mind. The famous episode of Sex and the City when Carrie Bradshaw reads some “fashion poetry” from Vogue magazine regarding the beautiful pink Oscar de la Renta dress below. Later on, “the Russian” surprises her by offering the said dress to Carrie to wear to the opening of La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera. I like to think that there are now little angels in heaven twirling around in the most gorgeous gowns as Mr. de la Renta smiles in approval at the beauty he last left down here for us to enjoy.
