The ego: every one of us has it but we each let it impact our lives differently. Actually, even before that: some of us are aware of its presence and can observe the thoughts it creates (most often fear based ones) and others are totally identified with it, believing everything it says. I was speaking to a very dear friend yesterday about the timing of life and how we often want things to unfold faster than they are. We want to have life “figured out” and accomplish great feats.
Wanting of life to be different than it is comes straight from the ego and that is what creates a feeling of stress and dissatisfaction. It’s perfectly normal to have desires and ambitions. In fact those are often part of our life mission but it’s the timing that we need to stop trying to control. I can attest that in my experience, I had certain lessons to learn before my life took a different and powerful direction. I think that this is what we are all meant to go through.
Find peace no matter what the external circumstances are. Be happy with what is while working towards the next steps. I believe that one of the major lessons we need to learn before our life can truly blossom is self acceptance and self love. The relationship you have with yourself affects every single aspect of your life. If you aren’t rooted in deep self love, life will be on standby.
Start by identifying ego thoughts (those that are critical, that tell you you “should” be doing this or that) and releasing them. Replacing them by loving thoughts. Find peace in the present moment and see all the gifts that you already have instead of always wanting to have more or be somewhere else. Once you start feeling that inner peace, you start seeing yourself for the truly beautiful being you are and life for the wonderful adventure it is.
If you would like to dive deeper into what the ego is, how it affects our life and how it can block us from stepping into our full potential, I highly recommend reading The Untethered Soul- The Journey Beyond Yourself by Michael A. Singer. You can read some reviews and purchase the book by clicking the cover below:
– You have a mental dialogue going on inside your head that never stops.
– The best way to free yourself of this incessant chatter is to step back and view it objectively. Notice it…
– There is nothing more important to true growth than realizing that you are not the voice of the mind.
– Much of what that voice says is meaningless. A waste of time and energy.
– It’s the commotion the mind makes about life that really causes problems.
The Untethered Soul was featured on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday and I would say it’s a must for anyone interested in going beyond plain personal development and finding out more on what we are really about. It’s a game changer and eye opener and it’s full of great tools to help you navigate through life with more ease and inner peace. Spread the love!
