Some people talk politics while others talk purpose

purpose, self care, spirituality, health,

If you live in Quebec like I do, you are probably glued to your televisions this evening to see who our next prime minister will be so I will keep it short. This was today’s quote: “Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it.”

The first thing that came to mind when I read this quote by Anaïs Nin is one of my favourite quotes by spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle: “This too shall pass.

This message has given me reassurance during the difficult moments of my life but it has also made me savour the good ones as they too shall not last forever. This could be perceived as cynical but it’s really about not attaching to the good or panicking when it doesn’t show up. For example, I am most often in a really upbeat mood. I do work at it with yoga, meditation and spiritual readings but it seems to be my default setting and I feel very lucky to be that way.

Today however, was not one of those days. For various reasons, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. All day I fought those feelings until I chatted with a friend tonight and realized that I should allow myself to have crappy days too. It can’t be unicorns and rainbows all the time! So instead of wishing to elect a state of happiness (or willing my way to a good mood), I just sat in that moment of funkiness.

When we don’t allow ourselves to flow through different states we just end up creating more of what we don’t want. So if you are feeling great right now, enjoy it to the fullest and if you’re not, know that tomorrow is another day and you can start fresh. Night my lovelies.
